Nandi

Nandi is a rescue bull from Animal Aid Unlimited in Udaipur, Rajasthan India. I met Nandi during my visit to Animal Aid where I volunteered for a week with my daughter in March 2019. We spent a very magical week there during which time I took some photographs that formed the inspiration for this painting.

We then travelled to Delhi where I bought the Sari border and the head embellishment from the Kanari bazaar. The recurring symbols (created with red powder pigment) in the background are Sri Yantras which consists of nine interlocking triangles. These triangles represent the cosmos and the human body and the Sri Yantra is one of the most powerful symbols in Hindu worship.
